Read-A-Thon

The Shepardson PTO is excited to sponsor the Annual Shepardson Read-A-Thon which will be held Thursday 10/31. The Read-A-Thon supports literacy while raising much needed funds for Shepardson. 100% of the money raised directly benefits the students and the school.

WHAT IS Read-A-Thon?
The Read-A-Thon is Shepardson’s largest fundraiser. Students, families, and teachers spend the month of October reading and collecting donations from family, friends, neighbors, and businesses. We conclude the fundraiser by dressing as a literary character, turning in our collection envelopes, and enjoying a fun day of reading activities, including special guest readers.

Read-a-Thon: What You Need to Know
Our much loved school needs our help more than ever this fall. Funds this year will be used to help keep the general PTO funded as well as anything else our school needs our help with this year. PTO has already helped with some of the school's operating costs for this year. Please support us so we are able to help more.

Date: Thursday, October 31st, we will be celebrating the finale with students and teachers in some form. More information to come later.
Reading: Students can start tracking their reading to tell friends and family. They can also turn in their books online on the Google Form "I am Reading...": https://bit.ly/48A4xAE
Donations: Students can start asking for reading sponsors. We are taking donation on Venmo using (@Shepardson-PTO). Students can tell sponsors/donors that we will take cash, check, credit cards, or Venmo. Online donations with credit cards or Venmo are open and are being collected on our PTO website. See the Donate Online form in the right-hand-sidebar of this page.
Envelopes: Money collection envelopes will be sent home in Friday Folders. If you need an envelope, ask your teacher.
Costumes: Can your student dress up in a Storybook Costume? (We know this is a BIG question with students.) We hope so! We will have a Read-a-thon storybook costumes and parade on Thursday 10/31 at 9:00 AM! Family and friends are welcome to come and watch!

PTO money helps with:
Shade Structures, Classroom/Teacher Fund, ECO Week, Family Caroling Night, Family Movie Nights, Field Trips, HABIC Dogs, Ice Cream Social, Mileage Club, Media/Instructional Supplies, Playground Equipment, Decades Dance, STEM Supplies, Coffee for our Teachers/Staff, and many others!

Support from the PTO has helped Shepardson STEM purchase:
New 4/5 Playground Equipment, Eight New Bike Racks installed summer of 2018, IDEA Center (for STEM activities), Five Water Fountain Stations, PE & Wellness equipment, STEM Equipment, E-books, Legos, Digital Scales, Tangrams, Animal X-rays, Steam Table Kit, Mini Weather Station, Thermometers, Scientific Equipment, Books, Math Manipulatives, Playground balls, Computer supplies, Media Center Supplies, Individual-sized trampolines, Exercise Balls, Teacher requested supplies, and so much more!

COSTUMES
Students and teachers are invited to dress as their favorite literary character and carry a book or a sign sharing who that character is. Families are invited to watch the parade--weather permitting, the parade will be held outside around the sides and back of the school. Please no scary masks. WEAPONS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Toys weapons that come with a costume will also not be permitted.
