Help plan and volunteer at our annual pool party at City Park Pool. This is a fantastic way to kick off the school year! ICE CREAM SOCIAL { AUGUST }
The annual ice cream social allows families and friends to reconnect after summer break. Help purchase or secure donations for ice cream, market the event and/or volunteer the day of the event. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS
Help select the movie, and run the event including setup and breakdown of screen, projector, etc. to support school administration personnel. FAMILY NIGHTS
Partner with local restaurants that will host family nights during which a portion of the restaurant proceeds back to Shepardson STEM PTO. PARENT SOCIAL { AUGUST }
Attend this event to welcome new & returning parents to Shepardson and help on the morning of the event with set up and clean up. Approximately 2 hours of your time. CONFERENCE DINNERS { FALL & SPRING }
This is a great chance for the parents to cook/bring food to feed our teachers and staff on one specific nights during fall and spring conference week. Approximately 1 to 3 hours of your time depending on your level of involvement. CAROLING NIGHT { DECEMBER }
Work with the Music Teacher to organize a fun night of caroling through the school neighborhood, followed up with hot chocolate and school choir performance in the gym. Chair and/or committee work to purchase the needed supplies for the popular hot chocolate bar! CLASSIFIED BRUNCH { FEBRUARY }
One of our great traditions at Shepardson Elementary is honoring our Classified Staff for all of the hard work they do by treating them to a delicious brunch! Sign-up to bring in delicious treats and/or help with set up and clean up the morning of the event. Approximately 1 to 3 hours of your time depending on your level of involvement. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR { MARCH }
Help needed with set up & take down of displays, decorating and working the event by being a cashier or helping students/parents select and find books. Approximately 1 to 2 hours of your time. TEACHER APPRECIATION BBQ
We always look forward to showing our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them at our annual Teacher Appreciation BBQ! Check out the different options below for items needed. If you are dropping off food and/or supplies the morning of then we would need to have them by 9:00am. Note that several items could be dropped off at school in advance if timing is an issue for you on the morning of the 9th. Approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours of your time depending on your level of involvement. PTO FUNDRAISERSREAD-A-ThON { OCTOBER }
Help needed prior to and day of the event. This is Shepardson’s largest fundraiser. Some of the help needed: collecting business solicitations, making packet copies, posting book titles, greeting guest readers, arranging for guest readers, collecting prizes and counting money. Approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours of your time. TRIVIA NIGHT { FEBRUARY }
Trivia Night Committee: Help plan this adult only event with collecting auction items, designing the power point for the trivia questions, designing the table centerpieces. Approximately 1 hour to 4 hours of your time. Day of Trivia Night Help: Help set-up the afternoon of, or work a shift during the event. Approx. 1 hour to 4 hours of your time. STAR STAMPEDE { APRIL }
This FUNdraiser is held in the spring so that students can gather monetary donations and then spend a selected morning walking, dancing and running laps around the grass of the 2/3 and 4/5 playgrounds. Families are allowed to come walk with their students. Work with the committee chair to coordinate day of event times, advertise the event, collect packets and count funds raised. |
LEADERSHIP & COORDINATOR ROLESBOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors consists of the President , First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Ways and Means, two Members–At–Large Representatives, School Accountability Committee (SAC) Representative, Staff Representative, and Immediate Past President. The elected officers of this organizations are: President, First Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Ways and Means, Volunteers In Public Schools(VIPS), and two Members–At–Large Representatives. ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR
In the fall, the Room Parent Coordinator works with teachers to find at least one room parent for each classroom and then helps each room parent understand their role and started for the school year. Once each classroom has a room parent the Head Room Parent Coordinator will organize an information meeting, usually around the middle of September, with all the volunteers to go over the basics of the role. Those include budgeting for the year, finding additional volunteers, class party specifics such as dates, times and planning ideas, as well as any other additional information such as classroom gifts and teacher appreciation week. ENRICHMENT COORDINATOR
Work with the Shepardson Assistant Principal and Office Manager to plan and manage annual after-school enrichment programs. Per discretion of the Enrichment Coordinator, these programs can be offered in a fall session, spring session or both. YEARBOOK
Take photographs at school and at special events, collect pictures from parents and teachers, work with the school photographer and yearbook publisher, coordinate an all-school picture, a faculty and staff picture, and a fifth grade picture for the yearbook in the Fall or the Spring (depending on the weather that year), take a class picture of each class, create the yearbook, advertise the yearbook, distribute yearbook order forms and/or create an online order website, collect orders and money, keep a detailed list of orders, order 25 extra yearbooks on average for anyone who forgot to place an order, and distribute the yearbooks to each classroom teacher at the end of the school year. KING SOOPERS COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM
Chair and/or committee works to advertise both rewards programs to the school and its families. SPIRITWEAR COORDINATOR
Work with 1st Day Spirit Wear to manage our online spirit wear store! SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS
This small committee works with the teachers to determine needed supplies for the upcoming school year and inputs lists into a software system. Distributes kit purchase opportunities to current and new families. Then in August work to coordinate delivery of supplies. Approximately 5-8 hours total. SUMMER BRIDGE BOOKS
Help distribute and collect order forms for Summer Bridge Books, help label and distribute books in May. Approximately 1 to 2 hours of your time. WEBSITE COORDINATOR
Coordinator works with the President, Secretary, Treasurer and all chairs throughout the year to keep the PTO’s website up to date. SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESCLASSROOM HELPERS
These tasks range from working in the classroom during a specific curriculum area or project to helping with clerical tasks. Specialists also have needs for the music and choir programs, art shows, and physical education events. Room Parents also fall into this category. MEDIA CENTER ASSISTANTS
These volunteers are trained for this service to children when they use the Media Center for research or for checking out books. Volunteers assist in checking in returned books, reshelving books, checking out books, helping students select and/or find books, and processing books for Accelerated Readers (AR). Many parents like to help during their child's class time in the library. SPECIALIZED SERVICES
We rely on parents to serve as Webmasters, newsletter typists and layout editors, translators, digital photography and downloaders. We feel very fortunate that so many parents are willing to share their skills and talents with us. COPIER & LAMINATOR
We train volunteers who will spend some time running copies and laminating for teachers. Trained volunteers are more efficient and allow our limited and highly trained paraprofessionals to spend more time serving students in the learning process. |
